Itinerary – 5 Days Mhamid Desert Trek to Erg Chegaga
Begin your Mhamid Desert Trek with a warm welcome in this peaceful oasis town. After settling into your guesthouse, take an optional camel ride to the nearby dunes or explore the village. Later, enjoy a traditional dinner and meet your guide for a briefing about the days ahead.
After breakfast, your camel caravan sets off into the Sahara. The route takes you through rocky plateaus and tamarisk groves en route to the spiritual site of Sidi Naji. In the evening, your desert camp awaits—with mint tea, a home-cooked meal, and stories under the stars.
As the trek continues, the landscape shifts from flat plains to rolling dunes. After several hours of travel, arrive at Erg Zahar, also called the “Whispering Dune.” Climb to the top for breathtaking sunset views before relaxing at camp with traditional music.
Today’s journey takes you to the vast dunes of Erg Chegaga, the largest in Morocco. Depending on your comfort and preference, you can travel by camel or 4×4 vehicle. On arrival, enjoy the remote beauty of the Sahara before settling into your desert camp for a special farewell evening.
Wake early to witness the sunrise over the endless sand sea. After breakfast, return to Mhamid via 4×4 through Lake Iriki and vast desert landscapes. Your Mhamid Desert Trek ends upon arrival, with the option to continue your journey or transfer to Marrakech.
