Itinerary: 2 Days Tour from Ouarzazate to Erg Chigaga Desert
Day 1: Ouarzazate – Agdez – Draa Valley – Zagora – M’hamid – Erg Chigaga
Departure from Ouarzazate in the morning towards Agdez, passing through the spectacular Tizi n’Tinififft Pass (1660m). Stop to admire panoramic views of the Anti-Atlas mountains.
Continue along the Draa Valley, famous for its endless palm groves and ancient kasbahs such as Tamnougalt. Drive through Berber villages and enjoy the beauty of southern Morocco’s landscapes.
Arrive in Zagora for a short break, then continue to M’hamid, the gateway to the desert. From here, switch to a 4×4 vehicle and travel off-road across the wild desert terrain. Cross the sandy plains, rocky plateaus, and small dunes before reaching Erg Chigaga, one of Morocco’s largest dune fields.
Upon arrival, enjoy a camel ride to admire the sunset over the dunes. Dinner and overnight stay at Bivouac Les Nomades, where you’ll experience traditional music around the campfire and sleep under a sky filled with stars.
Day 2: Erg Chigaga – Lake Iriqui – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Ouarzazate
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, depart by 4×4 across the desert landscape toward Lake Iriqui, a dry lakebed that forms part of the Iriqui National Park. Continue through the rough tracks of the Sahara to reach Foum Zguid, where the desert meets the mountains.
Stop for lunch in the small Berber town, then drive through Taznakht, known for its colorful handwoven carpets. In the late afternoon, return to Ouarzazate, where your desert adventure ends.
