Itinerary: M’Goun and Aït Bouguemez Valley trek – 6 Days
Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Bouguemez Valley (1750 m) – Start of the trek – Camp at Ikkis N’Arous (2300 m)
Early in the morning, depart Marrakech for the central High Atlas. You will cross magnificent mountain landscapes to Azilal, the gateway to the mountains, before crossing the Tizi N’Oughbar Pass to reach the famous Happy Valley of Aït Bouguemez.
After lunch, meet your team of muleteers and begin the hike through the Arous Valley. The trail winds through terraced fields, orchards, and typical Berber villages before reaching the sheepfolds of Ikkis N’Arous.
Approximately 5 hours of walking – Elevation gain: +500 m
Overnight in a tent in a peaceful mountain setting.
Day 2: Ikkis N’Arous (2250 m) – Tarkeddite Pass (3400 m) – Tarkeddite Plateau (2900 m)
After breakfast, we gradually climb to the Tarkeddite Pass. The trail offers a succession of breathtaking landscapes and panoramic views of the M’Goun Range and its snow-capped peaks.
Once at the pass, the view is magnificent! We then descend to the vast Tarkeddite Plateau, a place frequented by nomads and their herds.
Approximately 5.5 hours of walking – Elevation gain: +1050 m / -500 m
Overnight in a tent on the plateau, at the foot of the M’Goun Massif.
Day 3: Tarkeddite Plateau – Ascent of M’Goun (4071 m) – Oulilimt Springs (2600 m)
Highlight of the trek! Very early in the morning, we set off to climb M’Goun (4,071 m), Morocco’s second highest peak.
The climb along the ridge is spectacular: as you gain altitude, the panoramas open up over the Draa and Dades valleys, and the entire central High Atlas.
After an unforgettable moment at the summit, we gradually descend to the Oulilimt spring, a peaceful place surrounded by mountains.
Approximately 9 hours of walking – Elevation gain: +1170 m / -1470 m
Overnight in a tent near the springs.
Day 4: Oulilimt Springs (2600 m) – Aït Imi Pass (2905 m) – Aït Imi Spring (2100 m)
Today’s hike crosses a territory where nomadic families still live with their herds.
Climb to the Aït Imi Pass, which offers impressive views of the entire M’Goun massif and the surrounding valleys.
Picnic in the shade of the juniper trees before descending gently to the Aït Imi spring, where your camp will be located.
Approximately 5.5 hours of walking.
Overnight in a tent in a lush green setting.
Day 5: Aït Imi – Adazen Mountain (2400 m) – Descent of the Aït Bouguemez Valley – Timit (1750 m)
This day is dedicated to the cultural and natural discovery of the Happy Valley.
You’ll begin by visiting the dinosaur footprints in the village of Ibaklioun before climbing to the juniper-covered Adazen Ridge.
The descent offers splendid views of the villages of Aït Ouangdal and their adobe houses.
Along the way, visit the marabout and fortified granary of Sidi Moussa, perched on a hill overlooking the valley.
Approximately 5 hours of walking.
Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Timit, in the heart of the valley.
Day 6: Aït Bouguemez Valley – Ouzoud Waterfalls – Marrakech
After breakfast, depart by car for Azilal via a scenic road.
En route, stop at the Ouzoud Waterfalls, the most famous waterfalls in Morocco. You can enjoy lunch at a small local riverside restaurant before heading back to Marrakech.
Approximately a 5-hour drive.
Arrival expected in the late afternoon.
