Bivouac Les Nomades

What To Pack for visiting The Moroccan Sahara Desert

What should I pack for visiting the Moroccan Sahara desert

We make this blog because alot of our customers ask us about what do they need to bring with them when they take a Moroccan desert tour with us either to Merzoga, erg Chebbi or to erg chegaga- and lake iriki.
Packing for a desert tour requires careful consideration of the climate, terrain, and activities involved. The climate in the sahara change from morning to mid day to evening. This why you need to pack very carefully.

Clothing:Lightweight, breathable clothing (long sleeves and pants to protect against sun and insects)
Warm layers for cooler evenings and mornings (desert temperatures can drop significantly)
Windbreaker or jacket (for windy conditions or cooler nights)
Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots
Sandals or flip-flops for relaxing at the camp
Accessories:
Hat or cap with a wide brim to protect from the sun
Sunglasses with UV protection
Scarf or what we called as nomades the Chech ( a long turban to protect your face and neck from sun and dust)
Swimsuit (if your tour includes stops at oases or swimming opportunities)
Essentials:
Sunscreen (SPF 30+), lip balm with SPF
Personal toiletries (travel-sized)
Personal medications and basic first aid kit (band-aids, antiseptic cream, pain relievers)
Hand sanitizer or wet wipes
Insect repellent
Gear and Equipment:
Lightweight backpack for day trips and hikes
Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries (useful for navigating camps at night)
Camera or smartphone with extra memory cards and batteries
Portable charger or power bank
Other Items:
Passport and travel documents
Cash (small denominations for souvenirs or tips)
Travel towel (quick-dry)
Reusable water bottle (stay hydrated)
Snacks (trail mix, energy bars)
Optional:
Binoculars (for birdwatching or wildlife spotting)
Journal and pen
Personal snacks or comfort items
Notes:
Pack Light: Desert tours often involve traveling by camel or 4×4 vehicles, so pack essentials in a compact, lightweight manner.
Respect Local Customs: Dress modestly out of respect for local cultures, especially in more conservative areas outside major cities.
Check Tour Itinerary: Confirm with our team and tour operator if any specialized gear or equipment is needed for specific activities like sandboarding or hiking.
By preparing with these essentials, you’ll be well-equipped to enjoy your desert adventure comfortably and safely.
